Principal QA Engineer - MA

 

JOB LEVEL:  Having broad expertise or unique knowledge, uses skills to contribute to development of company objectives and principles and to achieve goals in creative and effective ways.  Barriers to entry such as technical committee review exist at this level.
              
JOB COMPLEXITY:  Works on significant and unique issues where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangibles.  Exercises independent judgment in methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.  Contacts pertain to significant matters often involving coordination among groups.

SUPERVISION:  Acts independently to determine methods and procedures on new or special assignments.  May supervise the activities of others.

TECHNICAL ABILITY: Leading/advanced skills. Works independently. Often trains more junior level staff.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Acts as leader. Leads meetings.

ACCOUNTABILITY: Works independently. Majority of accountability. Strategic.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT: Plans and allocates project resources for complex projects.

JOB IMPACT: Significant influence on project deadlines and quality. Influences business unit success.

PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE: Can teach subordinates in-depth and nuance knowledge of multiple products.

SAFETY: Maintains a secure, safe, clean, and healthy work environment.  Attends required health and safety training, and follows safety and security policies, procedures and practices. Promptly reports accidents, injuries, safety hazards,  or emergencies to supervisor or Safety department.  Follows operating instructions, uses protective equipment when required, and uses equipment and materials properly. Actively strives to prevent accidents and injuries.
 
TYPICAL DUTIES:
1. Responsible for reliability research for new electronic, mechanical and electro-mechanical design development, modification and evaluation in support of the company’s complex semiconductor capital equipment and systems. Determines reliability/quality approaches and parameters.
2. Will direct other departments in preparing engineering documentation and establishing uniform reliability methodologies for new designs, materials, equipment or process specifications.
3. Assists in the selection of suppliers based on analysis of specifications and reliability. Evaluates supplier capabilities to meet product long-term life expectations. May influence Make-or-Buy decisions.
4. Designs and conducts independent statistical experiments, analyses and tests pertaining to the development of new methods, processes and standards, modification of current material, component, software or process specifications, and resolution to complex technical problems. Defines problems and objectives, develops method of approach, design of experiment and organizes means to achieve desired results. Analyzes results, generates comprehensive reports and provides recommendations accordingly. Directs and/or recommends product or process implementation of required changes and modifications.
5. Develops reliability project plans, including method of approach, schedules, budget, personnel, equipment, materials, and supplies. Coordinates multi-disciplinary support and peer resources outside the department. Monitors progress of project. Evaluates results, recommends and implements corrections to ensure project objectives are met.  Prepares regular status reports.
6. Will review Engineering Change Orders (ECO) packages submitted engineers for accuracy and technical merit. Through the reliability representative will contribute to the weekly Corporate Change Board (CCB) meetings on assigned projects.
7. Reviews reliability literature and current practices relevant to the solution of assigned projects and/or area of expertise. Acquires and maintains current reliability information on the various materials, processes, engineering or manufacturing techniques. Studies the application as it may relate to assigned duties. Advises appropriate personnel of the latest technical and manufacturing developments.I’m getting a bunch
8. Acts as a reliability consultant. Possesses advanced knowledge on a particular aspect of reliability/quality work. Assists in the training and career development of engineers and support staff. Provides technical expertise to other Engineering disciplines, other departments, organizations and management.
9. Initiates company communications to resolve inter-project or inter-department problems.

10. Assists in the development of the department budget. Researches, compiles and organizes facts and figures needed. Estimates, for budget purposes, future personnel, equipment, and other requirements of the department/section, to accomplish objectives.
11. Compiles data for and prepares regularly scheduled or special reports, analyses and statements.
12. Work is performed without appreciable supervision. Responsible for completing broad and complex projects and/or programs vital to success of the organization. Must apply a high degree of originality and ingenuity, finding solutions for problems in areas where there is no single “right” answer. Must be able to provide highly competent counsel to management. Frequently provides guidance and leadership for less experienced individual contributors.
13. Defines general engineering approaches as well as specific solutions to reliability problems. Regularly contributes to key technical decisions, technology, process and/or product planning. Develops solutions to complex technical engineering problems that require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity. Problems typically require considerable technical insight. Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. Completed work is reviewed from a strategic perspective for business results.

14. Knowledgeable in data mining information from large data bases; i.e. SAP, SQL, etc.

15. Experience with macro programming, Visual Basic, reliability estimating and data analyses, product life distributions, reliability apportionment and estimating.  RELEX and Weibull++ are advantages.

 

EDUCATION: BS or MS in Engineering

 

WORK EXPEREIENCE:  Minimum of 7 – 8 years, prefer 10+
